James Hyland 1793 (headstone) Co. Laois
« on: Sunday 24 May 09 01:41 BST (UK) »
There is a headstone for a James Hyland (1793) on the Co. Laois website. Could you please tell me the name of the cemetery and if there are any records of his wife and children. I was hoping there would be a record for a possible (son) named Michael Hyland whose daughter Margaret Hyland (1845-1923) married Samuel Wheeler (1836-1916) of Mountrath my GGGradfather. Any info greatly appreciated...

The picture is on my website;
www.genealogylaois.com
and was taken in Portnahinch cemetery, just outside Portarlington. It's possible there are other names on the stone, but as you can see,it's very overgrown, but 'if' the weather over here dry's up a bit I'll have a go at clearing away some of the growth. If I remember correctly, there are a couple of Hylands buried there.

Went over to Portnahinch on a 'good day' but alas! the grass has grown so high, getting inside the gate was a problem and as there are so many small 'headstones' around the ground, it would be dangerous to try and walk around.
Perhaps some kind person will trim the grass, I'll keep my eyes open.
I know I sent records from Mountrath cemeteries, but did I send you the Wheeler's from the Mountrath census? if not,let me know and I'll send on same.
Jack :(

Dear Jack, Hello Again... And a great big Thank You!!! for your continued time and effort that is far beyond the call of duty. Now, we don't want you falling over some headstone you are to helpful and valuable to all of us Irish orphans over here. You did send me the 1901 census for the "Wheeler" family which has been a great help to determine the birth years of my GF's siblings. I know I will have future questions and hope I can call on you again. Many Thanks, Regards...Judy
