COMPLETED RANDALL/SIMONS baptism Wrestlingworth
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 10:12 BST (UK) »
Hi

Would someone be able to check this baptism for me please? It is on the IGI as extracted but also says it was generated from other information found in the index - which appears to be a submitted entry ???

Elizabeth RANDALL or SIMONS baptised 10 FEB 1723   in Wrestlingworth
parents Thomas RANDALL and Ann SIMONS

I have an Elizabeth RANDALL marrying Thomas HANDLY in Wrestlingworth 27 Nov 1749 - their first child seems to be Ann baptised 1753 so the above baptism looks a good bet if true!

Thanks
Jan ;)

It's a P batch number which in Beds usually means the transcripts prepared by Bedford Records Office, now BLARS. If you click on the source call number it gives you the source, and sure enough it was the transcript. I would regard that as reliable.

Thanks David

It would be interesting to see if there is a comment in the entry. The most likely Thomas Randall is having children with Mary up until 1716 but I can't see a suitable Mary Randall burial in Wrestlingworth until Mary Rendell 30 Nov 1729!

Hello Jan;

There are two Thomas Randalls.

The baptism entry on Feb 10 1723 says Elizabeth daughter of Thos Randall, butcher & Ann Simons, spinster

The baptism entries between 1704-1716 for children of Thomas & Mary Randall, wheeler or wheelwright.

The burial on 30 Nov 1729 is of Mary wife of Thomas Randall, wheelwright

Thomas Randall, labourer, was buried 12/05/1735
Thomas Randall, wheelwright, was buried 09/09/1738

Note re Ann Simons ? is she putting it about under another name !

Noticed the  baptism on 31 Aug 1719 of Mary daughter of Wm Baker of Sutton & Ann Symons of Wrestlingworth.

.... & burial of Mary daughter of Wm Baker, labourer, & Ann Symons on 30 Oct 1724

regards John

Thanks for all that information John.

I suspect that is the same Ann. I can see two Wrestlingworth baptisms: Ann Symons 25 JUL 1686 and Ann Simons 2 OCT1692 but both have father Lewis and there is a burial for an Ann Simons 24 Nov  1687 which could be the first Ann.
