Henry Tabor in transit
« on: Wednesday 27 May 09 22:03 BST (UK) »
My Grand Uncle Henry is reported among my family "records" as being born in Hong Kong in the last week of 1869.
He was en route to Japan where his father was taking up an appointment as Master at the Imperial College in Osaka.
When I contacted the authorities in Hong Kong they had no record of the event.
The family had been residents of Kingston south east South Australia in early 1869.
I have no record of the Ship or journey from S.A. to Hong Kong.
Can anybody assist here.
I do not know if Father or Mother would be regarded as British subjects as would enable consular records to exist.

There are a couple of Tabor deaths registered with the consulate for Hiogo and Osaka in 1871-75. These are Frederica (vol 5 page 1177) and Ernest William (vol 5 page 1186).

Hello Shaun
Fredericka, and Ernest are members of my Grandfather's generation.
Henry William is of my great grandfather's generation.
The Henry I am searching for is my Grandfather's brother.
These people were registered in th Consular records for Japan( Hiogo) but Henry was born in Hong Kong
That appears to be the problem and the reason he may have "fallen through the cracks"

Does anyone know if Hong Kong births of British subjects are recorded locally or in a consular office.
