Who is next of kin? Completed Thanks
« on: Friday 29 May 09 14:41 BST (UK) »
This is the attestation papers for Samuel Brown Saunders, born Boscatle, Cornwall, England who was working as a building contractor.  He was joining the Canadian Expeditionary force in 1915 but I can't make out the name of his next of kin nor the relationship.  Can anyone else?

Thanks

I read it as Medland Mrs W E (Mother)

only problem is - from census I think Samuel's mother was gertrude Ellen ????

What were father's initials?  It was long customary for a wife to be known by her husband's initials.

Solved it - I think!!!!

there is a marriage FreeBMD
Mar qtr 1914
Gertrude Ellen Saunders
William E Medland
Paddington
1a 29

so Samuel's father must have died and Mum remarried

Mum would be entered on official documents as mrs William E Medland

so there we have - Medland Mrs W E (Mother) which is all correct
