BBC Radio 4 - interesting programmes
« on: Friday 29 May 09 15:51 BST (UK) »
Hi all -

There were a couple of programmes on Radio Four this week which may be of interest - especially for those interested in First & Second World War or social history.  If you can listen on BBC iPlayer then here's the links....

The Conchies of Holton-Cum-Beckering - Billy Bragg meets the surviving members of a unique group of Second World War conscientious objectors who formed themselves into unique farming communities.

and a comedy serialisation
Classic Serial: Mugsborough
EP1 : 1917

Dramatisation by Andrew Lynch featuring the characters of Robert Tressell's novel The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, picking up the story 10 years on.

The residents of Mugsborough hold wildly differing views of the Great War. The politically aware favour peaceful solutions, others are determined to avoid being sent to the Western Front. One returns from Flanders terribly injured and cannot find work and one child is still unaware of the tragic circumstances of her parentage.

I listened to episode 1 at 3:00pm Sunday 24th May so presumably there will be another episode same time next week...

Isn't BBC iPlayer "Listen again" marvellous!
