It was quite common to be expecting before marriage so who knows!

On freebmd there are these 2 mysterious entries both registered in the Sep quarter 1882 Newark RD ................

Henry MELLOWS 7b 6(3/8)1
Kate DUNN  7b 531

They need checking out ................. looks like a bit of a muddle to me ............... could be your couple but which ref is correct ???  Would your couple have married about this time?  Is Neward RD the correct area?

The 7b 531 looks incorrect as this is the ref for four other people married Nottingham in that quarter so that leaves ............. Henry - could it be 631?  Try and get the refs checked out otherwise you might have difficulty if it is the right marriage and you don't have the ref. right.

Well with the mess that was made with the reference number they could have done the same with the road and they did live in the Newark area after they married.  So who knows? ::)

Their first child seems to have been born in 1885 in Farndon so yes it could be them

Thanks yet again

Hi,

I checked the index on 1837online.

The marriage reference, Sept quarter 1882,

Henry Mellows  Newark  7b 631
Kate Dunn        Newark  7b 631

Looks like that is their marriage, I would use the reference and get the certificate.

I must have been half asleep when I read what you sent to me  Casalguidi for the 1871 census.

Sarah must have been the 2nd wife of William mustn't she taking into account the age of William Jnr.

Also I suppose that Henry could have been the nephew of Sarah who on the 1881 was 52.

What is the best way to go about finding out?
Another marriage cert?

Yes, I agree about the relationsips - there are a number of possibilities.  I would go with trying to track them back on the census first ie. 1861 when they look likely to be in Farndon and then see what turns up from that.  Also, try and find Sophia & family in 1861 - Flinton or Thoroton perhaps?

If you've ordered the marriage certificate for Henry & Kate, you might not need to go down this road with the ALLWOODs just yet .............. it might just turn up when you research Henry and his parents back a bit.  It's up to you.

Best wishes

Right well silly me, forgot that I had sent for the bc for Henry.

Anyway  it says
born 16 Feb 1857 Thoroton
son of Sophia(x)Mellors

Dont know what the x means

Anyway it looks like he was illigitimate

and maybe the son of the old guy after all
