passenger list "Stebonheath" 1858
« on: Monday 08 June 09 13:31 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I can download the passenger list for the Stebonhealth that arrived Sydney 28 feb 1858. Tried most places but just wants to tell you ship details. We are after my wife's g/g/g/grandmother Eliza DUDLEY widow (nee MEHEGAN)who came out with her 3 children Jane abt 15, George abt 15, Mary abt 11. Eliza would have been born abt 1823 (don't know where)
Many thanks
Anderson

I have done extensive research on this particular (notorious) voyage of the Stebonheath.
If you like, visit my family history website:  http://www.thenoones.id.au/ and go to the chapter on Martin's voyage out.

It's a very interesting story and one that few would like to make today. As a young boy I made a 6 week trip by ship with my parents and we had a ball. I'm glad I was born in this time and not in the mid 1800's.
Thank you for you kind help in putting a bit more of my wife's history together.
Regards
Anderson
PS  I had a really nice lady send me information on our Irish family coming to Australia. But with our computer crashing lost her contact details.

If you would like you can see the report printed in the Argus Newspaper on the 22nd April 1858 (the -Parliament Paper from the Immigration Board) regarding the Stebonheath voyage.

Hi there,

Just adding to Kris's post:

brother in law William ? ? - William HUNT, Queanbeyan - it is clearer in the last column which gives sponsor's name
uncle ? - this says "uncle, as above"

Do you know Eliza's maiden surname?  A Jane HUNT died at Queanbeyan in 1862 with parents Daniel and Mary - just a possible.

Hi Debra
Jane is my wife's 4x great grandmother. Jane's mother & father was Mary & Daniel Mehegan. Jane married Patrick Kinsela & they lived in what is now Queanbeyan. Patrick was the chief police constable in Queanbeyan & was killed on duty in 1841. Jane then married a publican named William Hunt. Jane's sister Eliza was the one who came out with her children on the Stebonheath. Can't find Patrick coming into NSW as there was 3 Patrick Kinsela's arrive in NSW within a 20 year period.
Thanks for your interest & reply.
