Cafe in Cornwall

I realise that this is a very long shot as the building is obviously old and so is the photograph but does anyone know where this might have been?

I've tried historical directories - it's the only site I know - but the most recent directory for Cornwall is 1914 and nothing shows up on that one.

Thats a shame.

How did you come by the photo and do you know anything about the family who had it at all ?

Hi guys,

Alice Patterson (she of Cooper and Patterson) was my grandmother's sister, born in 1886.  I borrowed the photo, along with loads of others, from my cousin after her mum died a few months ago and have finally scanned and stored them all.

I remember this great aunt but only vaguely as I was very young - only learned that she had a cafe when I saw the photo.  I'll see if I can find out any more.

Tintagel - that's always a possibility.  Perhaps it would be sited where there were tourists.

Patterson is not an obviously Cornish name!  I tend to associate it with Scotland.  Where was Alice born?  And is Patterson her maiden name or was she married?

I don't think this is Tintagel - the building's roof is pantiled, not slate.  Tintagel is in the heart of the slate industry area.  Most buildings there have slate roofs.

Also the window frames are remarkably straight and quite large in size if this were a very old building.

Hi Nell,

These Pattersons originated in Norfolk.  There's not too many of them there, either but you wouldn't believe the problems I have tracking them down (actually you probably would - that's why we're all on here, isn't it).

They moved to Northumberland when Alice was young and I'm not sure how she got down to Cornwall.  She never married but lived with her friends Mr.  and Mrs. Cooper (we have often wondered.... ;D).

I need to have another chat with my cousin who gave me the photo - she's older and can remember more.

Was this Alice May Patterson ?

Who were her parents ?

What was her dads occupation ?

Have you found her on the 1911 census ?
