Place name in Suffolk ***Completed*** Thanks!
« on: Saturday 13 June 09 05:24 BST (UK) »
Can anyone work out what this place name is in Suffolk.  This is the birth place of my GGG Grandmother Mary Steel (maiden name unknown).  She would have been born around 1800 and in the 1851 census she says she was born in Suffolk, in 1861 she says Saxmundham, Suffolk and in 1871 she says she is born in ???, Suffolk.  The first word I believe is Suffolk but the second word I cannot work out.  I wondered if it was a place in or not far from Saxmundham but I am not sure.

Thanks for Looking
Deb

Hi Deb  :)

It looks like Framlingham to me - it's a few km west of Saxmundham.

Cheers

I agree that it looks like Framlingham - and a very nice place it is too, with a rather splendid castle, where Mary Tudor was living when she ascended to the throne in 1553.

Suffolk: Pearl(e),  Garnham, Southgate, Blo(o)mfield,Grimwood/Grimwade,Josselyn/Gosling
Durham/Yorkshire: Sedgwick/Sidgwick, Shadforth
Ireland: Davis
Norway: Torreson/Torsen/Torrison
