Thanks for your offer.  I'm wondering if there is a family of Scotts living at Whinfield in Ashkirk in the 1851 census?  The names I have so far are John Scott, wife Christian (Nichol) and son John.

I"m not sure of the spelling of Whinfield.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but here is your answer at last
There was a John and Christy Scott [ nee Nichol ] living at Whinfield on the 1851 census ages 54 and 56 respectively . He was a road contractor and was born in Ashkirk. She was born Lilliesleaf.
hope this helps

Bougie, I neglected to tell you that you found my rellies of Whinfield.  Thanks so much.

If you'd be kind enough to look for a Robert Grieve and spouse Janet (nee Shakleton) and thier one year old baby Janet in Roberton or Ashkirk in 1851? Perhaps Sinton Gardens?  I know they spent time in both localities but not sure where they were in 1851...perhaps Lilliesleaf?

Sorry took so long in replying but people are always borrowing my books.
Got them back now and only Robert Grieve in Ashkirk is single, living at Bowden age 28. None in Roberton but there is a Robert and Janet Grieve living at Teviothead age 32 and 27 but their children are ,Robert 3 and Ann 2.

Hi Bougie, Any chance of looking to see if there are any Tait's listed in the census for Hawick? Children that I know of are William, John & Margaret. Do not know parents names.
Thanks heaps.
