RAF James Morgan

Hello

I'm looking for inf about my uncle Jimmy Morgan.  He was lost in what I have been told was a practice flight off the south coast of England.  He was in RAF.  He was married to Edith Boyle and lived in Barrhead Scotland.

Reason I'm so interseted is that my poor aunt Edith, his widow, never recovered from his death and lived a terribly depressed life - because Jimmy's body was never found she hoped he might be still alive and would come home one day.

I've been told there are some experts out there - help please.

James is listed as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Airforce Volunteer Reserve assigned to the 53rd Squadron he died in July 1944.

I believe that irene_kipyahoo.co is seeking any further information that could be provided by the military experts.

Sorry to be a pain - does 'volunteer' mean that it was like 'terrotorial' today.  If so how could I find out his 'usual' occupation and when / where he joined.

I believe that his service record might provide further information (although the experts on here will know much more than I do) - these records are still held by the Ministry of Defence

SAR = Subject Access Request
Nearly all of the conscripted men that joined the RAF in WW2 were considered to be volunteers for the airforce and therefore were tagged VR after  RAF, not like the TA, at least that is what I have been led to believe.

If you go to your local library they may have copies of the books by W R Chorley, Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War. if you check out the volume for the date the aircraft went missing, it should give you details of all the crew which you can use on the CWGC web site to find information about them and possibly find their families and share information.
Possibly someone here may have access to the books and can post that information.

My friend "the Oracle " gave me this information ......... 

Morgan was lost on Liberator EW306 of 53 Squadron which crashed into the sea off Trevose Head, Cornwall. Afraid I don't know the cause. 4 crew killed, 4 crew (I think) saved.
