Gloucestershire is where the Forest of Dean lives but the people had - and still have - the habit of sliding across the border into Monmouthshire, and in some of the earlier census parts of the forest were enumerated with Monmouthshire.

The part of the Forest of Dean that is registered in Monmouth is the area known as West Dean, do you have a place name to help.  This is the Forest of Dean site
