James Shaw: marriage please?
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 09:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help me please. I have found a christening for David Shaw on igi 25th Dec 1825... St Peter or Collegiate (?sp), Wloverhampton, but I cannot find a marriage for his parents, JAMES & ELIZABETH.

In the census, I cannot find James, but in 1841, Elizabeth is 45 and living with David 15(no other children identified), in Dudley Worcs, in 1851, David is alone in lodgings in Bow London. So unfortunately I have not been able to find birthplaces, for James and Elizabeth.

However at this time I have found numerous members of the family, christened/married in the above named church. So if anyone has access to these records I would be grateful for a look up.

Thank you.... meggy

A Benj.Griffiths married a Phoebe Shaw in 1840 at St Johns Halesowen

Thanks Jackie

This is a possibility, as Phoebe is a name that appears in later generations. As I have found David with a 45 year old Elizabeth, he was born 1826, he could have been the last in the family so these could have been his siblings. However I need to do some more research with these as, there were another James and Elizabeth Shaw, although they were in Stoke on Trent.

Thank you again... Mandy

Benj. +Phoebe Griffiths (Shaw) had a son David bapt 1851 St Thomas Dudley-Family still in Dudley in 1861.

I'm trying to find this family in 1851- Elizb.(possible mom) could be with them

Hi Jackie

Once again thanks. I have Shaws coming out of my ears at the moment, I think I need to take a deep breath and take another look for Elizabeth with you.

David moved from London to Dudley then back to London, but all further generations come from Netherton, Dudley.

I have not found Elizabeth with David again, he married Ruth Round. I have all the info for him and subsequent generations. I am just trying to fiind James and his era.

Thanks again Jackie. I have replied to pm,via pm... but Yes please.

I haven't found Elizabeth in 1851 yet either. I have checked the original census for 1841, which you too must have done. It is a bit confusing as Phebe and John state that they were born in the county (Worcs), whilst David was Staffs.

Another look at the igi, I think.. but it will have to be tomorrow now.

Thanks for all your help.  meggy

Seasons Greetings Meggy,
I have been looking for the exact same James & Elizabeth Shaw for a while now too! They are my 3rd great grandparents! If you are also related then perhaps establishing the relationship between us will help with our search? If you could pm me to exchange email addresses then I will share the information I have, including my tree on ancestry.com, DNA matches, and clues/mysteries found during my search. I would pm you but I have just joined this site so I don't know how to do it yet!
Kind regards,
Chris
