Eleanor Ambrose -Vancouver
« on: Friday 19 June 09 16:06 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me please?

I haven't done any research in Canada until now, but I'm trying to find out anything I can about Eleanor Ambrose - known as Ellen -  and would especially like to find her on a passenger list and I just can't come up with anything.

She was born in Carmarthenshire, Wales in 1889 and died in Vancouver - date unknown.

She gave birth on the 7th June 1909 to an illegitimate son, but does not appear on the 1911 UK census, so presumably went to Canada between the birth and census.

I've searched without any luck, so if anyone can make any suggestions I'd be so grateful.

Many thanks,

Bev.

The only Ellen Ambrose on a passenger list between 1909 and 1911 who was in the age range of your Eleanor/Ellen that I could find was from Bath and had a final destination of Nashville, Tennessee.

There was a marriage for Ellen Maud Ambrose in BC but the information in the death index makes her about 8 years too old to be your Eleanor/Ellen.

Thanks Jacquie, they were the only ones I could find too.  ???

I'm even starting to wonder whether she might have married just before leaving, and so be under another name, but I can't find any evidence for that either.

Thank you very much for looking.  ;)

There is a marriage between Eleanor Ambrose and Garnet Davies second quarter 1913 in Swansea Wales.  Do you know if she brought her son with her to Canada and what was his name?

Hi Karie,

No she didn't take her son with her - Marcus stayed and eventually became Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths in Carmarthenshire.

I hadn't seen the marriage  - I'll take a closer look at the archives - thank you for letting me know.

Unfortunately this has proved to have no connection with my Eleanor.  :'(

Back to the drawing board.  :(
