Sagar family - Barnsley
« on: Friday 25 February 05 14:17 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching all Sagar families from Barnsley, West Yorkshire. I have plenty of information going back to the early 1800's.

If anyone has information, or would like information, please contact me.
Thanks  :)

Hi Starry

There is a registered one name study of the SAGAR Family.  You may be able to find more details on the Guild of One Name Studies website at www.one-name.org

On the home page click "Registered Names" and you will find the details of the person who has registered the study.

Best wishes

I'm a little confused. Who is Mary Ann Semley, and who was born in 1835?

Ahh, gotcha now :)

Ok, well, I have Edward marrying Mary Ann Harper, but that could be my error. If I have the right one, he is the son of my 3xGGrandmother, Elizabeth. I believe he was a twin, with Thomas. I should add, that I don't have any birth certs to confirm this, so they could be one of Joseph and Elizabeths childrens kids.

Joseph, Elizabeths husband, repotedly died in the Barnsley Colliery disaster in 1849. My 2xGGrandfather was born in 1850, possibly his but I'm unsure as there is no father on his birth cert.

Do you have any certificates at all?

Let me know what I can help you with :)

If only lol - they are a very complicated family.
Elizabeths maiden name is Rennison. She and Joseph married c1838. She married William Hewitt in 1883, when she was 64. Edward was one of 11 (I think).

Joseph was born c1819 in Barnsley. Elizabeth was born c1819 in Thirsk.

Hiya peoples
I'm looking for info on Hannah Sagar.
She was meant to have married an Andrew Aylmer late 1820s but not sure how!
He was married to a Hannah Cooper but some records show a Hannah Sagar too so maybe it was short not sure if she died or what!
ALso got info from an old letter (gmothers sister wrote the letter) saying her gmother cleggs mother was married twice first to a Sagar then to an Aylmer.
Anyway it goes on to mention Colonel Sagar and a wife that was perpetually pregnant. The wifes sister lived with them. Wife died and sister wasn't allowed to stay so they went to France so they could get married then were ostrasied when they got back despite his wealth and standing.
Goes on to mentin few other related families and also info about a hunting acccident died agonising death refusing to have leg amputated. If you're interested to hear more let me know.
Andrew was born Southfield Colne, Lancs. 1783
