Hi Gadget. I found a Jane and Alexander on pg 109 on the tweedmouth link. Jane died in 1801 aged 44 in Spittal the same place gggf alexander was born in 1823. I never came across the younger Alex but have seen the film through the LDS church where I used to live. It would seem like this alexander might be Gf to my Tom 1801? Any thoughts?

Have you come across any mention of the earlier Alexander's marriage/children? 

I'm getting confused with the generations 

Jane was 70-74 on the 1841.

Hi Gadget, I know about the confusing part - I'm well past that point . I haven't came across any info on either one of the two Alex and Jane. The earliest one I found just a burial in Spittal in 1801 age 44 as was Alex. I don't remember what I've sent but that is all I have so far. Again thanks for all your help. Still have a lot of BT's to go through.

I have only quickly gone over this again but I have found this (not sure if it is on here already;

JANE Orkney, Daug of ALEXR and JANE
Age 4mths
Abode Unthank Square
Notes;
Died 29 Sep 1798, father: a Pitman, mother: late LEE heretofore GLADSTONE

So looks like Jane was a Widow (Mrs Lee) when she married Alexander Orkney and her maiden name was GLADSTONE

Thanks for that Trish, I have not seen that.

I have been tracing the Orkney name (onhoj is backwards for John Orkney) and there is a record for the birth of Thomas Orkney on 29 April 1802 in Inverkip, Renfrew showing his father to be Robert Orkney and mother to be Margaret Morrison.

This is the first link that I've found between the Berwick line and the West Coast but I still haven't got a connection to Montrose.
