Hi

Through the 19th century a relative of mine is recorded on various census as being born in:

Hessington, Hertfordshire
Herenton near Mountford
West End, Hertfordshire

Unfortunately, I can't find out where she means. Anyone interpreting the above know where the place may be?

Many thanks
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

According to my Road Atlas......... West End, Herts is close to a place called Essendon; could that be "Hessington"?

South of Welwyn Garden City.

Might it  be Essendon, which is in the Hatfield district?

This pub  photographed on this web site  has an address:
West End, Essendon, Hatfield, Hertfordshire
http://www.ukpubfinder.com/pub/29433

I found a George GLANFIELD in the Census b abt 1841 who in 1871 said he was born in  Hessington, Herts.
In 1851 & 1861 his pob is :  Essendon.

Also found a John Jordan who said "Hessington" pob in 1861. In 1851, he just said: Hatfield.

Trying to find the "Herenton near Mountford" one to have a look at - do you have a reference for that Census?

Cheers

Hi,

Maybe Mountford was a house.

You've definitely got it though. She was living in Middlesex, they must have assumed she was dropping he aitches.
