Hi All

How does Llanrian  (now spelled Llanrhian) appeal??  It's on the coast between Fishguard & St David.

I found a reference to it in the 1871 Wales Census for Mary Allen

Steven, have you found the family in the 1861 census?

Hello all

Sorry for the problem, and thanks for all the considerations.

No, I can't find them in 1861, by 1881 the father (John) had died and Mary the mother was living with her son William and daughter (who now calls herself Angelina with her one son James T Sullivan and daughter Florence Sullivan, the name of their father).   Another daughter Edith was born after the 1881 Census and they then call themselves Shea.   But O'Shea on BMDs.

It's very difficult.

I can't trace, Edward after this one 1871 Census, then William disappears after the 1881 Census, sorry just realized I'd put that all wrong.   William did witness her second (bigamous) marriage in 1883.

So at the time of Joanna's birth in 1855 they were living in Crickhowell Registration District (1st quarter 1855, Crickhowell 11b 141) http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/crickhowell.html

My cousin and I have yet to establish where they were prior to 1871, we have spent two years trying to piece it all together.

Even Joanna/Angelina's birth is confusing as there are a few Joanna's born in Breconshire around 1855 to 1857, with different spellings for christian and surname.

On later census returns it seems she went to live in Brecon, Breckonshire, or sometimes called Brecknock.   On one census she put her birth place as Hay, but the birth cert from Hay does not match the parents.

As I  mentioned before none of them could spell and it changes on almost every turn, she even changed her name from Joanna to Angelina for second marriage.

I was curious going back to 1871 census as am sure this is the right family, living next door is Mary Ann Driscol who was a witness on her first marriage.  Then she put her name as Angeline Shai.

They have listed the children out of order I thought as Edward aged 9 then Joanna aged 14 then William aged 7, I have seen sons all listed then daughters.   I wonder if it is more confusing that they have got the places mixed up as to which  child was born where?

Phew

Honan - Manchester and Ireland
Hogg - Manchester 19 cent
Anderson - Newcastle mid 19 cent
Boullen - London then Carlisle then Manchester
