When I first looked at it though magnifier the word before ...... shall looked to be friend but now I keep seeing a letter g which she used in Aged and Hug which resembles a number 8 so what word would begin with g

I think the last line is correct what most have found When I am dead and in my grave, and I doo agree that it could be part of a poem.

I have been searching google for these words in a poem, but only that coming up, I would like to know if it is a poem who it was by

Could it possibly be depicting a funeral perhaps, church, rosebowl , a crown, a hearth?.

My contact had it explained once that she may have seen these things from her window as she stiched it.

Any ideas on the contents.

Well I must preface this post by saying I'd never even heard of a "sampler" prior to today  :o

Although no wonder, really, when I was made to do 1 year of 'textiles and design" (sewing) at school I failed magnificently. Probably wasn't listening the day they were talking about samplers  ;)

Anyway, when I read that page on Google you found, I took in the other bits around the 'poem', and saw there were similar kinds of 2-line rhymes or phrases that the other little girls did.

Maybe, rather than a poem, I kind of got the feeling it was something from a textbook or teacher that the kids copied.  Did a school-type book for sampling/needlepoint exist I wonder? And the phrases in it could have been religious or of ... what do you call those little sing-song chants that kids have done for hundreds of years? [Having a brain freeze). Like "Ring-a ring a rosy, a pocketful of posies...".
