Mathew Adams' occupation
« on: Thursday 02 July 09 07:55 BST (UK) »
From his marriage certificate, Mathew's occupation is hard to read. He was residing at Haslar Barracks, and I can make out Sergeant and 16 Regt of but the rest of it beats me. I thought the last word might be Foot, but the first letter looks like a G.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.  :)

Yes, it is "Regiment of Foot", i.e. he was an infantry or foot soldier.

Thanks Gadget.  :D

I found that one this afternoon and emailed it to my friend. I really liked the way it had such a detailed timeline.  :D

And the births of childen born overseas tie in beautifully. His wife must have gone along for the ride each time.
