« on: Thursday 02 July 09 19:13 BST (UK) »
hi,i have been researching the burns side of my family and found that my g/grandfather patrick burns was married to margaret gillon. i have also found the birth cert for margarets brother james(thanks to gadget from rootschat). on james birth cert (1855)his father is listed as patrick gillon, place of birth,Ahamlish Sligo.
i have tried to find out where the original birth/baptism records for ahamlish are kept.i have tried grange parish church, bridge street records office, and sligo genealogy office but no one seems to know where they are kept.

                      cheers. doch.

Church of Ireland Ahamlish records are apparently still in Local Custody , some have been indexed by Sligo Heritage and Genealogy Society. The records include baptisms from 1882, marriages from 1882 and deaths from 1877

Catholic Ahamlish records are available on microfilm at the National Archive library on film P. 4602  The records include baptisms from 1796 onwards, but there does seem to be gaps.

the Irish Family History Foundation (pay-site ) www.irish-roots.ie lists Ahamlish RC  as one their sources for Co. Sligo. The index is free to search, the transcripts cost €5 each to view.

a search of the index shows quite a few possible matches for Patrick - with spelling variations such as : Gillin, Gillan, Gillan, Gillon

hi shane, i have been on the sligo heritage and genealogy website and found aclose match to patricks birth year,I then went to their office in sligo where I got a print out of a photocopied image of the cert.patricks age on son james birth cert is 40 so his birth year is around 1815. (sorry for the confusion).
