Stratford C Doherty aged 12 b Brighton so born earlier than 1863

He was a scholar at Cambridge House Hove which appears to be a school of some sort

I can't find the family together in 1871 but there is a Charles W Doherty aged 42 b Dublin shown as a boarder in St James Westminster - retirered military officer

Madeline married in the Croydon district in the December quarter of 1883.
Her husband was a Samuel.

In 1881, Mother Julia (Widowed) & daughter Madeline appear at
3 New Croxted Rd, Camberwell, Surrey

Also forgot to add that births in Hove and Preston (where the 2 children may have been born) are indexed under Steyning district, not all of which is on FreeBMD.  I believe that Park Crescent is just on the border of Preston which may help explain why their births are not listed in the FreeBMD index available on the Internet.

If you want copy certs, you will have to write to the G.R.O. or, The local Registrar, who now-a-days covers Hove, Preston and Brighton from his/her office in Bartholemews, Brighton.
