Should have mentioned that I checked into that Thurles marriage and it is Church of Ireland

restricting the search for Ellen's baptism to counties Galway and Tipperary I get seven matches  between 1843-1851. Two of them in Galway.

You can do the index search of the IFHF site without paying, (you do have to register) but it could get expensive at €5 a go to check the parents on all the baptisms.. especially as it now looks like the Thurles marriage (which is what lead us to Tipperary) may not be correct..

widening the search for Ellen to all available counties on the IFHF system gives 53 results

My Goodness - 53 results!!!
She is going to be hard to find!! I guess I didn't count on the names being so common.
I just might have to go back to the original idea of finding Margaret's marriage by playing around on the IFHF.
I really appreciate all the help you have given me - I am learning a lot!!

Hello
I think the Baptism record for Ellen Noonan (Galway West) IFHF for 1850 is worth checking out for 5 euros cost, as her father was Patrick.  If mothers name and maiden name is correct, then you have the location, and could possibly get the marriage details then too.

Thanks Lucy - that's really helpful. I haven't had a play around with that site yet so I'll definately have a go at that tomorrow.
I love this site - you are all so friendly and helpful.
It's good night from "down under"

Hi Shakel

I checked that Baptismal record out on IHF - and it appears to be correct!

Ellen Noonan  b 3/6/1850
father Patrick Noonan   occupation not recorded
mother Margaret Connolly (spelt with o)
RC religion

address   St Helena,  Rahoon, Co Galway

sponsor  Mary O Neil

STp  1/6  (I think this is church payment - stipend 1 shilling and 6 pence)

Rahoon is an area just outside Galway city, on a hill.  It is  a country area mostly still, so I would think St Helena was the name of their house.

Regards

Thank you -
Probably one of Patrick's mob.
I've been concentrating on Margaret's side.

Would I look on the IHF to find the marriage of Patrick and Margaret - assuming they were married in Rahoon???
