Frank jackson

I am trying to find a Frank Jackson b.May 8, 1855, Canada. I do not know
where, just in Canada. Came to the U.S. in 1876, according to a 1900 census. His name on a U.S. census is Harlon. So maybe Harlon Frank, or Frank Harlon. Later Harlon was Hiriam, may have been a mix up?
I really do not know anything about him before 1900. Our family does not
know where he really came from other than the older ones said he was
from Canada. He may have been an orphan.Or maybe he was wanted. He may have had a sister Charlotte, but really no clue as to that. A mystery of
his identity that I can't find before he married my great grandmother. I can
not seem to find anything. Does anyone know where or how to
look in Canada? He was a horse trader in 1900 in U.S. If I could find who
his parents were(death certificate says parents unknown).

May I ask where you learned the birth date of 8 May 1855 for your man?

Canadian records are kept by Province so searching means going thru each Province... slow business as far as I have experience.

If the death cert says "parents unknown" it would seem to me that the infomant about the death just didn't know.   Does the name of the infomant mean anything to you?  Was he a relative? Where did the death occur? 

There are many uncertainties in what you tell us... how do you conclude that the  surnames, Jackson, Harlon and Hiriam refer to the same man? 
I'm trying to understand how all this fits together so can suggest a line of action.

Charlotte, I think rjohn meant that Harlon and Hiriam were given names used by Frank, not surnames.

Hi John,

There is a Frank Jackson born abt 1854 with a sister named Charlotte on the 1861 census for the township of York,  county of York. Mother is just given as Mrs Jackson, she is 35 & a widow, it says they were all born in upper Canada.

I'm not saying this is your man, but it may be a good starting point. I will look around for Frank using the other names.

I'm pretty sure I can find this family in the 1881 census so I don't think its your man.

Hi John,

 if this is your Frank and he lived and died in Ontario he may well be buried there and you might get lucky and find the grave on the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid.   Its on the net as OCFA and is free to search.
Ilocate a very lost relative thru this... you might see a cluster of Jacksons whose names ring bells for you.  Worth a look.

JAMIMAH JACKSON age 6 b. Ontario in Wilmot ( * also says 2 deaths in last 12 months!)
so mother may have died in childbirth
JOHN  JACKSON age 50 born Ireland... in Wilmot
SETH JACKSON age 19 b. ONT in Wilmot...of IRISH descent
