Excellent find in 1891 and 1901 - now I will never get to bed - its 1.00am here and i am still prowling the net for these completely unrelated folks . I hope the lady appreciates all the hard work everyone is doing !!

Many thanks indeed

Hi. This is a bit of a long shot being as this post is several years old. We are trying to trace crew members of submarine E7 who were taken PoW in Turkey. John Andrew Hanson Scaife was one of that crew. We have created a Facebook page and have found descendents of the commander and 4 crew so far.  If anyone is able to put me in touch with any descendents of John Scaife I would be very grateful.

Hi Dawn
Thanks so much for contacting me- life got in the way of genealogy, however I have just retired and after I finish unpacking etc, I will get back to it!
I am not related to the SCAIFE family, but I will have a go at finding John SCAIFE's descendants and will post back here as well as on the facebook page if I come up with anyone.
Many thanks again for your message. Much appreciated.
Regards,
Kiwi007

hi again!

I have been doing some more research that I decided to post here in case other researchers are looking about - please take what is of interest for your group. As I understand it, John Andrew Hanson SCAIFE married twice - 1) to Mildred CRADDOCK in 1910 in London ( she may have been the daughter of Henry Hyde CRADDOCK who emigrated to South Africa in the 1880's with his family, but someone needs to buy the marriage cert.). 2) to Mabel M ?? born Bridgwater Somerset about 1894. The second marriage produced Diana Evelyn SCAIFE b 1928. Diana's grandson still lives in Nassau Bahamas where JAH had moved sometime after 1919 ( I found him with Mildred in 1919 at Kenilworth Court Lambeth- she had been on her own in 1918 ). John Andrew Hanson SCAIFE returned to England and died late 1961 aged 73  in Hailsham, Sussex.
On various shipping lists, JAH says he was a publisher, a journalist and of course mostly, Commander R.N retired
John had twin brothers born in Canada- Leicester Cecil Peregrine SCAIFE and Arthur Martyn Peregrine SCAIFE. There is now some amazing info on the web and I highly recommend clicking on the links below:

2nd Lt Leicester Cecil Peregrine Scaife

Leicester was born in Victoria, British Columbia on 18 Jun 1894.  In 1913 and 1914 he was earning £60 per annum with board and lodging as an Assistant Master at Corchester Preparatory School, Corbridge, Northumberland. He married a Bagnall in 1916 in Kendal. Married again in 1972 to a Robertson. He died in 1980 in Southampton. ..Photo here: http://www.4thbnnf.com/wordpress/northumbrian-division/brigade-organisation/organisation/c-hayden-bridge-company/

Also these....fantastic for researchers!

The other brother, Arthur Martyn P SCAIFE stayed in Canada, married 3 times had some children and died 18 Sep 1974 aged 80. He was a gasoline engineer.

The sister Gillian May SCAIFE was a well known actress who married twice ( she had one daughter, Susan, from her first marriage ) - I have her obit if anyone is interested. The other brother, Prof Christopher Henry Oldham SCAIFE was a published poet and writer - he died in Italy- also have his Obit- an amazing family

I am happy to email anyone my working document so pm me with your email address- lots of censuses, shipping records, obits etc

I hope some more relatives find our posts and join your group Quackers!

Cheers
Kiwi007
