Hi Helpful People,
I have been in contact with a person in England, Christine, who may (or more that likely not) share an ancestor with me.
I offered to help her try and track his life in Australia, but I'm stumped already. She's ok with me asking you folks for help. Here's the story so far:
Christine's grandfather, Henry Adams, was born on 25 December 1895 in Bethnal Green, London. He had no middle name.
His parents were William George Adams and Jane Sophia Adams[nee Ormes].
Henry married Emily in 1919. The story was that he was wounded in WW1 and she nursed him.
In 1920 when Christine's father, Robert was born, Henry was living in Hackney, London. He was a borough surveyors' clerk. Their 2nd child Allen lived for a few months and died. When Emily was expecting their 3rd child, Henry disappeared. Emily named the 3rd child Peter Allen Adams.
The family received a letter for Robert, dated January 1925 but postmarked August 1925 from Henry. It was posted in Birregurra, Victoria, Australia.
Christine feels that Henry might have changed his name. Allen is a possibility due to his 2nd child.
I have searched NSW BDM for deaths for Henry Adams and Allen Adams. I don't have access to Vic BDM. There is no record for either name travelling to Australia in ozships or findmypast.
Is this a hopeless cause?? Thanks.
Tracey.
