Horstead

Am trying to trace Great great grandfather born 1840 Edward John Horstead.

I can find his marriage in London in 1868 and on census for 1881 - 1901 he is shown as a stoker in the Navy.  However though the census show London as his birthplace it is family tradition that he came from Norfolk and had a brother or close relative called Jonas.  It is also said he worked in the brewing industry.

Now I have been unable to find a Edward Horstead in birth records for London but I have found two in Norfolk transcripts.  One born 1843 in Aylsham, who died in 1864 and the other born 1840 in Ketteringham between Wymondham and Norwich.  I also know there was a very large brewery in Wymondham at that time.

Any ideas how I can trace him from here?

Well, help needed please.

I have received my Great Grandfather Edward John Horstead's marriage cert in London 1868 and see on it his fathers name is James Horstead with occupation of Brewer.

I have asked for a look up on 1851 census in London but no Horsteads are there.

Anyone any ideas where James Horstead, Brewer may have come from in Norfolk?

Thought I would just update with some good news.

Found GG Grandfather in Stepney in 1851 census - from there have traced him to Ketteringham/Hethersett near Norwich and in one fell swoop back another 2 generations.

Am back to 1725 and trying to go further.

Nice to get a result!
