Right - I have found him in 1881 and it is the same family as 1871 so I suspect the birth cert you have may be for a different Thomas Harvey

If Agnes was younger than Thomas - he may have knocked a few years off his age when they married in 1901

16 Brown St Blythswood Glasgow

Thomas Harvey 52  b Greenock seaman
Mary   50  b Greenock
Thomas   20  house painter b Glasgow

Hi again

do you think ive went down the wrong road.

I started with my nana who was janet pringle, born 2/6/1904 calton glasgow, father thomas harvey, house painter, mother agnes aird harvey, then i just worked my way back, until I got to Thomas Harveys birth, which i worked out that he would have been born 1864, and the reason I thought this would be the right person was because the mother was elizabeth harvey. we have more recent people called elizabeth harvey (harvey being maiden name).

also thomas harvey married agnes aird pringle in 1901 and he was 37 which means he was born 1864, do you think ive got all this wrong...... o dear......

Yes I'm afraid so.  Thomas didn't help by being a bit economical with the truth about his age which would lead you to an 1864 birth

What you should have done really is used the info on his marriage cert re: parents names and traced from that angle rather than a birth

We got the right person in the end but that is why we ask so many questions as it is very easy to go off down the wrong track

Im so disappointed with myself how i managed to get it so wrong, ive now got the right brith certificate for him just bought it from people scotland, he was born 1960, which means he was 41 when he got married instead of 37, agnes aird pringle who he married, also remarried when thomas died, she has also not been honest with her age, she was 22 in 1901 when she married him then she remarried in 1918 and she states she was only 32 when in fact she was around 39, why did they do that and how did they get away with it.

Just want to thank you for all your help xx
