For what it's worth, Jim, there's no John Bowes showing on the 1841 that fits yours. This suggests that the one that you've found might well be the correct one.

I have also been researching my family tree & have come to a halt with Thomas Bowes born Kirkintilloch. Have had a Kirkitilloch "look up" to no avail & apparently the Bowes surname is not familiar to the area.
I also would have a major breakthrough if the marriage of John Bowes to Janet Russell could be located ( my guess is they married c1837).
There is an old outer suburb of Glasgow in 1838 called Bluevale.
Tracking down John Bowes b c1812 is very difficult. One consideration in finding John Bowes' fathers name is to apply the Scottish naming patters.
Please let me know if you have progressed any further & your connection to this line of the Bowes family.
