Atkinson/Doyle Ballon Hill Ballon
« on: Sunday 19 July 09 13:42 BST (UK) »
Hi
Have just joined today as I am interested in finding out about my maternal grandmother and her family.

I know that she was born 29.9.1905 Ballon Hill Ballon Co Carlow Mary Atkinson
I believe her mother was unmarried at the time her name was Catherine Atkinson

She also had another daughter Brigid Atkinson 19.04.1908 before she was married.

She went on to marry David Doyle on 5.5.1908 in the Church in Ballon. David Doyle date of birth 6.7.1879 I do not know his date of death - He was born Laragh Ballon and his parents were Mary Breen and Pat Doyle, I think he also had siblings Edward Doyle, Michael, Patrick and Margaret Barry.

If anyone has any further information or indeed if descendants are still living in Ballon that would be great

Or if anyone could suggest what I could try now that would be great.
Thanks

Census data for Co. Carlow (1911 and 1901) is due on the National Archives website sometime later this year. (9 counties are currently available) see : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/

There is an Irish Civil index available on familysearch at :  http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

You can order certs by post using the index details from the GRO : www.groireland.ie

Hellow Huggs ,As well as lookin through official records for dates of death you could also check with elder relatives for information.Another area to look at if your relative was catholic is old prayer book quite often you will find memorial cards these generaly have the date of death.
 Hope this may help Diarmuid.

Hi
My name is Mary Kelly - nee Doyle.  My late Father was James Doyle of Laragh Ballon Co Carlow.  Edward Doyle (my Grandfather) was a brother of David Doyle - I'm not quite sure but I understand that David died young.  I do have an old photograph of David as a young man.

Can this be of help to you.

Hi Mary

Thanks for the message. David Doyle is my Great Grandfather and I believe he died young as did my maternal Great Grandmother Kate Atkinson.

In total they had 3 children, Mary (My grandmother), Nancy and Bridget. We know that in the 1911 Census my Gt Grandmother had died as David was aged 31 and a widower he had been married 4 years with 2 children and one surviving Bridget (As my Grandmother and Nancy were born before they were married).

5.5.1908 David Doyle bachelor, labourer, Ballon son of Patrick Doyle, labourer married Kate Atkinson aged 20 spinster Ballon Hill, daughter of Peter Atkinson Labourer, they were married at Ballon Roman Catholic Church. The witnesses were Edward Nolan and Jane McKane.

After kate Atkinson died it appears that David went back to live with his parents at Tarragh, Ballon, Patrick and Mary Doyle they were married 46 years had 9 children - 8 living.

I don't know if you have all this information already? It would be good to have a photo as we don't have any of the Doyle's, Sadly Bridget died in England a couple of years ago. I could send you a photo of my Grandmother and her children?
Look forward to hearing from you Maria
