FORCUS Hugh Robert Nelson
« on: Tuesday 21 July 09 20:31 BST (UK) »
HRNF married Mary Jane Ackland nee Morley in Perth WA in 1927 - then the trail goes cold!  I have seen HRNF's Military Medal citation on the AIF site.  MJ's first husband, who died in 1919, was my g-g-uncle, George Henry Ackland.  If anyone knows any more about HRNF, or what happened to the two of them after their marriage, please let me know - especially if they had a family.  MJ's son (also George Henry) by her first marriage died in about 1948.

Thank you!

Hi pollycat
   http://www.naa.gov.au/
Search as a guest

Although you mention seeing his AIF material, I wonder if you have seen his ww1 digitised record which gives a lot o details about addresses and contains letters from him up to 1931.

http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/script/name.asp#searchtabs

Will also give some outline of his particulars when he rejoined the Forces in 1939.

I do not see a Post Office directory listing for him in 1947.

Hi pollycat,
You may find it interesting to search the PO directories.
http://www.slwa.wa.gov.au/find/guides/wa_history/post_office_directories
It is a rare surname and, it would appear, he is the only one by the name in WA
However,  there is an interesting pattern in the listing which may or may not be significant.
Around 1923 to 1927, he is listed as ROBERT at an address 431 Newcastle St. Perth.
But in 1927, there also appears a seperate listing for HUGH Forcus  at 14 John St. North fremanlte
This pattern of the 2 listings continues with variations to 1931 when it reverts to ROBERT only at 431 Newcastle St. Perth.

There was and still is a certain caution about single women listing under the title Mrs. or Miss  and I wonder if this is an indication of an early separation. ::)

I note also that the son you refer to George Henry Ackland is buried at Karrakatta.

His father appears to have been married before he married Mary Jane and so there are anumber of half siblings to Gerge Henry junior. ???

You can see these birth entries . Perhaps he is another George Henry.Ackland.  What do you think ???   http://www.bdm.dotag.wa.gov.au/_apps/pioneersindex/default.aspx

Sue the Robert FORCUS is his father -  mother is Sara.    His parents were listed in Victoria on the early electoral rolls and then moved to WA by 1916 and had the same address as in Hugh's WW1 record.  They moved back to Vic and were  on the roll in 1936, however they do not appear in the death indexes to 1985 in Victoria.  His father was also a horse dealer and by 1936 was a groom at Newmarket.

I didn't detail all the electoral roll info of the parents as I felt pollycat was interested in the son.

Hugh was born in Victoria in 1897 at Geelong West to Robert FORCUS and Sara NELSON Reg#21204.

Robert b. Geelong and Sara b. Warrnambool were married in 1896 in Victoria  Reg#1195

Hugh is the only birth to this couple in the Victorian Indexes.

Cheers

Oh Good. Thanks Cando.

MJ's first husband, who died in 1919, was my g-g-uncle, George Henry Ackland.

Perhaps the first husband did not die in WA in1919, but eleswhere which Polly knows of.

I can only see this death in the name, other than the one of the son in 1948

ACKLAND GEORGE H. Male   at  PLANTAGENET 72 year 1940

Advertisement by Robert FORCUS for his one of his horse sales.

It appears Robert was trading horses from Victoria in WA as early as 1895.
