It was boarded up when I drove past on Sunday.
Kendal Library may have some material - their local history section is very helpful.

Hi, a gt.gt.uncle on my wife's side was found dead in the River Kent near Nether Bridge in 1904. The inquest was held in the Cock & Dolphin the following day.

It has been closed ( this time) for some time. Like several of Kendal's older pubs it seems to struggle to be profitable. The Ring O'Bells a little further along the road suffers the same fate. No landlord seems to last more than a few months. Great shame.  :(

I have heard that a local building firm  has bought the Cock and Dolphin and are going to turn it into flats . It may be flattened first.

I understand that the planning application to demolish the pub was withdrawn at the end of 2009 after a lot of local opposition. Although the current building is not that old and a bit quirky for Kendal it is quite a local landmark.

Also, see http://www.kendalwiki.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Cock_and_Dolphin from my website for a picture of the pub in 2000.

I might have some more recent pics and have a couple of books with older pictures, including ones before it was rebuilt in 1898. It looks as if Henry Wiper was the landlord when it was rebuilt. I also probably have some postcards which have it as part of picture of Nether Bridge which is adjacent.

HI Scotty
According to the local newspaper THE WESTMORLAND GAZZETTE work is starting to transform the cock and dolphin into 9 two bedroom apartments 6 in the old pub and 3 in a new extension adjoining the old building

Yes, this is correct:

Unfortunately, there just aren't enough people to sustain all the pubs we have in Kendal.
