Welcome to Rootschat!

On here there are lots of folk willing to help look up anything, and people thathave access to all sorts of stuff, and all are ready and willing!
First though we need to know what you have already, so we dont spend hours searching for stuff you already have.

So, first, are you wanting to try and get further back (ie parents of Wm and Eliz) or trying to tract the family forward and see what happened to them all?

Which censuses have you found them on? what certificates have you got etc et c....

pS was Elizabeth REALLY 52 when last son born?
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Hello lizdb - Many thanks for responding to my post.

I have a copy of William & Elizabeth's marriage from the Whitchurch Parish Register - married 10/9/1834

1841 census - HO 107/903/12 Living at Green End, Wem, Whitchurch.
1851 census - HO 107/2036 Folio 796 page 34 - Common Sdie, Canal Boat - Belito Price & Son. No 2 - 5542
1861 census - NO TRACE
1871 census RG10/4070 Ashton Canal, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancs.
1881 census - No trace of William & Elizabeth but I have found Son George b1856 with wife Alice (nee Grimshaw)

I am trying to prove that the family in 1851 census is the same family I found in 1871 census.  I've purchased about 45 birth certificates trying to prove that Elizabeth (nee Bradshaw) is their Mother - without any success.

I have the following certificates
Ambrose b1840 - d1845 - Father William Williams, Boatman
Enoch b1853  - Mother (nee Bradshaw) - Father William Williams - Boatman
Esther b1858 - Mother (nee Bradshaw) - Father William Williams - Boatman

I also have Enochs, Georges and Ambrose b1867 marriage certificates - Father Williams Williams - Boatman

Hope this makes sense.
Ann

Seems to be two possibles for 2nd Ambrose's birth -
Jul/Aug/Sep 1866 , Dudley, 6c 133
Jan/Feb/Mar 1867, Dudley 6c 32

are these 2 of the many birth certs you have sent for?

Although he is listed as son on 1871, there is always the possibility I guess that he is actually a grandson, maybe illegitimate baby of Mary for example?

I've got both certificates that you quoted. 6c - 32  Dudley - Father Charles Williams and Mother Mary (nee Harthill)

But the other one 6c - 133 Dudley says : Ambrose Williams b 25/7/1866 Headside, Dudley, NO Father listed, Mother Mary Williams. The mark of Mary Williams, Mother, Brierley, Kingswinford, Registered 4/9/1866.  It looks like your hunch could be right, Ambrose is the illegitimate son of Mary. I never thought of this when the certificate arrived.

In the 1891 census RG12/2831 Folio 140 page 44 - William Williams living at 1 Cholmondly Place, Runcorn, Cheshire aged 78 with Mary and Henry Brunton.  I thought this might be his daughter - I have looked for a marriage for these two, but without success.

If you can dig anything else up that will help me match the 1851 family to the 1871 family I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you so much lizdb for taking the time to look at those births for me. much appreciated.

Ann

hi, hope you are still on the site, it is only this last year that i have been researching my family tree and just seen your post. william williams was my great, great grandfather and george  williams his son my great grandfather and his son william born 1884, my grandfather, all canal boatmen.  i too am finding it hard to place the family in the mid 1800s but you seem to have more info than i do. although i am still looking. my branch of the family settled in manchester. i will check some of your info with what i have and see if it makes things clearer.
