There is a public tree in Ancestry, gives johns date of death as 4th March 1904, but apart from that nothing we don't know already.
I think the 1851 census is maybe right though as he is a miner then  The daughter Mary Ann came with his wife for the 1861 census.

I've found in 1841,

John Pacy 50
Ann Pacy 45
John Pacy 15
William Pacy 3

Living in Stapleford, so the same family as the 1851 census. John junior is a coal miner at aged 15.

It seems to fit in very well Dizzifish. Mary Ann  born 1846, so would be 15 on the 1861 census when Ellen had married John, who was again listed as a Pacy, not pacey.

I hope Eric is as pleased as I am, because this was driving me mad last night. So Ellen Pickering was Mary Bretnalls daughter before she married John !! Hence the close connection between the families over the years !!

Can I comment on one small thing - according to the IGI the marriage between John and Mary was the 23th September 1824, not 1821 .. I wonder which one is correct ??

Thats great! Thanks so much to you all for the replies. At least it has given some useful mental exercise!!!!!!!!!
I think you are right about Mary Ann not being John Pacey's daughter, or at least not a legitimate daughter. That was one of the explanations I was considering. I have access to all the censuses except 1851 which  "findmypast" don't have fully yet.

Can I move this discussion further concerning this family.
In 1871 & 1881 there is a Sarah A(nn) Tibbs living with John and Ellen Pacey, listed as grand daughter, born around 1864 in either Ripley or Ambergate. There are no parents mentioned and my thoughts were that the elusive Mary Ann might be the mother, but I couldn't find a marriage between a Mary Pacey and someone named Tibbs, and I can't find one for Pickering either.
I have just sent off for Sarah Ann Tibbs birth cert. Her birth was registered in Belper in March 1864.

Many thanks again for some interesting research.

I am so sorry Dizzifish !!

To be perfectly honest I was so chuffed with what you'd found - I clicked on post, but then wandered away to see what else I could possibly come up with on the IGI !!

You must have altered it while I was doing that, in the meantime all I could see was what you'd initially said !!  :(

Sorry Eric, I'll post this and read your reply !  :)

Added:

Please would you post the outcome of the birth certificate, I for one would be interested to know !!

Hello all,

A little bit more…

Eric...I see from your post you have ordered the birth certificate for Sarah Ann Tibbs and that it is Belper registration district and on FindMyPast the information also gives it as the sub district as Ripley.

Well….. a little bit more digging came up with this marriage =

FreeBMD
Marriages MarQ 1863
WILLIAM TEBB & MARY ANN PICKERING – Belper 7b 538

And FindMyPast also has the marriage details and the sub district is also Ripley and states the marriage took place at All Saints, Ripley, Derbyshire.

As luck has it I have some details of some All Saints marriages at Ripley……  :)

Marriage - All Saints, Ripley – 9th March 1863
WILLIAM TEBB, aged 32, Wid, occupation Collier, residence Ripley, father John Tebb, Labourer.
MARY ANN PICKERING, aged 20, spinster, father John Pickering, Collier.
William signed & Mary Ann her mark X
Witnesses = Joseph Tebb & Biddy Tebb

Regards

Sheila.
