Okay,
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.htm shows the marriage.
Edw. Johnson, 36, b. Norway, resident Detroit, builder, father John, mother Olive Olsen.
to Anna Swanto, b. 29, parents John and Kate Petso/Pitso?
It was not true that he would have been "required" to change his name when he arrived in the country, but he may have chosen to do so. As his father was John, he was probably already known as Johnsen in Norway (Hennebrekke or similar would be a farm name), and Edward/Edvard may have been his middle name or another family name.
There is also on the website I linked a 1920 census entry for an Edward Johnson, 33, single, emigrated in 1916, he and parents b. Norway, occupation carpenter.
http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi - ssdi shows his death (Nov 1980), and birthdate - 7th Oct 1886.
The closest farm name I can find is Hanebrekke. In the 1900 census of Norway there is this:
http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1900&knr=1443&kenr=013&bnr=0017&lnr=00father "Jan J Hanebrekke" ("John"), mother Oline Olsdatter ("Olive Olsen"), son Ole Jansen (Ole Hanebrekke/Hennebrekke/Edward Johnson).
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebFront.exe?slag=vis&tekst=meldingar&spraak=e - if you go to the digitised parish registers here, select county as "Sogn og Fjordane" and then parish "Eid/Starheim"
Here is his baptism:
