Streatham Park Cemetery, London
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 10:42 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I wondered if anyone has ever visited the above cemetery and can just answer a couple of questions?

I have an ancestor buried there. I have the Grave No and Square No etc and would like to go and view the grave.

Does anyone know the opening hours of the cemetery? Also, is there an office at the cemetery where someone will be able to point me in the direction of the right part of the cemetery for my grave?

Thanks for any help!

i have been there, actually by mistake as the office i wanted was for the Jewish one next door,
but there certainly is a large office and they have computers there, and were pretty helpful
best to give them a ring to find opening hours ;)

yes thanks Meriel like you i had the grave number etc,
and had travelled over 200 miles, so the sat nav took us straight there, the people in the office were a bit
confused with the plot number etc we gave them as it didn't relate to any they had,
then we realised :-[
more confusing was that the chap in the jewish one when i phoned him had taken the trouble to go to the graves and send me photos by email, so was really scratching our heads lol

Hello

I also have three relatives buried here, I have a last minute trip to London happening this weekend, so I thought I might try to find them.

I have grave numbers etc, but I have just rung the offices and they said they would post me the map!!! :(  As they don't have an electronic version to email.

If I don't receive it in time because of the postal strikes etc, can you just go to the offices and request to look at a map?  Or do you need an appointment?

Thanks Trippy

OK...

The Office is open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm

The Staff are terrific & will do their best to assist anyone, they can`t really assist with grave/cremation searches on the phone so a visit will be required. I believe technically there is a charge for this.

I can`t remember exactly when the records started to be placed on computers, I`ll find out.

The grounds are IIRC 63 acres.

There is a very basic map of the different squares/areas available from the office, but without a lot of other info it`ll be difficult to identify/find old graves.

I`ll do my best to help out if I can.

Thanks for the post Stevie,

I visited two weekends ago, and you are right the staff were extremely helpful.  The showed me a book listed by grave number, I knew the number of my mob, so it was easy to find them in this huge book!  It showed dates of buriel, how much was paid for the plot etc etc

Then a very helpful chap, walked with me to the area of the cementry where the plot was, unfortunately that part of the cementry had changes in the levels of the ground in the 60's, and many of the headstones were not replaced after the work was finished.  Unfortunately my GGG grandfather and mothers was one of them!

Probably one of the more helpful cementries, I've visited.
Best Wishes Trippy
