BAXTER Baptisms at Bampton, Devon lookup please
« on: Sunday 02 August 09 19:43 BST (UK) »
Hi, I recently found a connection to my ancestors in Devon which is interesting because I don't have any other ancestors from this part of England. However I have run into a bit of trouble since the Bampton parish registers don't seem to be on the IGI. I know there are many on the GENUKI website but for some reason the period I'm looking for (1820s) seems to be missed out. Any help in finding these baptisms would be great.

Children of Thomas & Mary
Sarah Baxter, b. c.1825 Bampton
Jane Baxter, b. c.1826 Bampton
James Baxter, b. c.1827 Bampton

All three are age 15 on the 1841 census but I doubt whether any of them were twins. There may also have been other siblings, but I know that by 1832 they were living in Peckham, Surrey.

Also, I have only found a marriage for their parents, Thomas Baxter and Mary Lyle on someone else's family tree: 8 Apr 1822  in Bampton. I was wondering if it were possible for anyone to confirm this?

Thanks,
Alexander

Bampton has an OPC and a local historian who can be contacted through the Genuki site entry for Bampton. Why dont you try them ?

I've already got a reply from the Bampton historian. He says that the Bampton parish registers for the period (1813-1843) I'm looking for were all destroyed during the war, so that's why they're missing. Just my luck! ::)

Does anyone know if bishops transcripts for Bampton exist then, or any other copies?
