Hi,

http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/topics/bmd_2.htm#death say the details on a death certificate are:

   Full name of deceased
   Date of death
   Place of death
   Given age
   Cause of death
Occupation (or name and occupation of husband if the deceased was a married or widowed woman)
Name, address and family relationship (if any) of the person who reported the death.

As they give no date parameters for any of the details (wheras they do for other certificate types)  I assume the information has been the same from 1837 to date.

In England is the death cert under the married name for a women or the maiden name?

I'm spoilt in Scotland as I get both and the mother's maiden name if known!

Cheers,
Pam

In England it would be registered under the last known name... so if she was married or widowed it would be under her married name.

Hi again,

Yes,  where name is stated it means the legal name,  ie.  married name where applicable.

And it seems you are spoilt in Scotland where for all certificate types additional information is provided. 8)

just to confirm what "spoiled" is.... :)
I received a 1901 death cert from Australia. It provided address at time of death, full name, cause of death, wifes maiden name, place of burial, number of years in Australia, and names and condition of all children (living/deceased) and their ages, etc.  Could hardly believe my good fortune.
