Peckham Address? Not sure: Completed Thanks!
« on: Tuesday 04 August 09 16:21 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

Can anyone else decipher this address?  I've tried looking at street maps and googled variations on this address, but I'm stumped. Perhaps the street no longer exists. It was handwritten on the side of a Certificate of 1878 to register my great grandmother at school. The family lived in the Camberwell area of London by 1881. Any help greatly appreciated!

Best wishes, Jimmijam

Hi Anna and Amber39,

Thanks for those offers, I've tried googling them but to no avail.  Maybe this is an old address and has since been developed.  I seem to remember that there were links to old London Maps somewhere on the Boards. I'll go trawling...

Aha Flouncylicious!
Graylands Road PECKHAM [1899]
Graylands Road, St George, CAMBERWELL [1881]

Thanks for that! I'll see if I can find those maps now! Gosh you lot are good!

Best wishes, Jimmijam

I'm sure you have had a reply by now.  But my grandfather was born at 44 Graylands Road, Peckham in 1888.

The address doesn't exist now unfortunately.

All the best
Val

Graylands Road did exist in 1965, when almost the last house was vacated before the North Peckham estate started being built. In some maps it is shown as Lidgate Road (parallel to Blake's Road.) Do not know why?
