Finding Death Notices in Newspaper/ Galpin
« on: Wednesday 05 August 09 13:48 BST (UK) »
Is there another way to get a copy of a death announcement from the newspaper. I sent an email to the Dorset Library & they forwarded it to Archives at Dorset . For them to look for me it is going to cost me  26 pounds per hr.  to look, without any guarantee of finding it. Since I am in Canada , with the exchange rate, it is going to be too expensive.

The Names are.

Florence Ellen Galpin   died Nov. 2, 1960  Weymouth Dorset.

Joseph Victor Galpin  died Aug. 30,1961  Weymouth Dorset.

Thanks
Sharon

Your best bet is to find out where the archives of the Dorset Echo are kept (probably Dorchester) and put in a request to see if someone would go and look them up for you. The Bournemouth Echo archives are kept in Bournemouth Library and I would be prepared to do look ups there, if people didn't mind waiting till the opportunity arose. There are some very helpful sites for US look-ups (I recently had 2 obituaries looked up in Florida by a kind guy), but I'm not sure whether there are such opportunities here. You could always try the Dorset Family History Society to see if someone would look them up.
Leicestershire - Yates, Wright, Pole, Blakesley
Dorset - Tilley, Hunt
Dorset/Somerset - Rogers
Dorset/Southampton - Trodd

Weymouth Library has copies of some local newspapers on microfilm including the Dorset Echo. As you have precise details regarding the death dates it might be an idea to contact them and see if they’re cheaper for look-ups.

I should be going back there later in the year but this won’t be until after the summer season is over – easier to park – and will willingly do a search for you.

This link (by entering the name Galpin) shows several entries but unfortunately none after 1948.

I sent an email to Dorchester Library today & will wait & see what they have to say, before I email Weymouth Library.

Thanks for taking the time to give me more options.  If I don't have any luck, I will get back to you Spiderboy after the summer.

If you are still willing to do a look up for me  for the death notices for the Galpins, I would appreciate it very much. So far, I have had no luck.  The names & dates are

Florence Ellen Galpin  died  Nov. 2, 1960  Weymouth Dorset

Joseph Victor Galpin  died Aug. 30,1961  Weymouth Dorset.

Thanks
