found a military tailor named Johnstone on Dawson street in Thom's 1894 & 84. This street has a junction with Nassau street.

   59 Dawson street - J. B. Johnstone,
    military and merchant tailor,
     also 34 Sackville street, London

They share the building with 5 solicitors. There is no sign of any Hanrahan tailors, but they would usually not be listed unless they ran their own business. Johnstone tailors is not present at the address in 1914.

hopefully Jeremiah will show up on the 1901 census when that comes out. At least then you would know where and when he was born...

any idea when the photo was taken? or do you have any other names of people in it. I have grandfather and great grandfather who were tailors in Dublin City working for a firm in that area.

Dear Obbie

In the Irish Times newspaper (1859-1901) thre are 3 references to Johnstone (Tailors) at 59 Dawson Street starting in August 1867. If you want the references  please revert.

Johnstones appear in Slaters 1894 but are not in Thoms 1911.

There is no reference to Hanrahans as tailors in Slaters 1894

Regards

Quaxer.
