Hi Carol

Edwin appears age 23 in the 1901 census, living in Stockton with son Harry (6 mths), and his sister in law Sarah Wilson (aged 25 born  Byers Green, Durham, unmarried).  He is widowed and working as a joiner.  There is also a visitor, Joseph Stump, aged 22, a farm labourer born Kirby in Cleveland.

All living at 9 Windsor Road, Stockton on Tees.

Is this the family?

best wishes

Paul

Hi Carole

The site where you would find the marriage information is

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

From the opening screen, go to the bottom (the top search bar is just an advert)
Enter a search in ther period (say) 1895 - 1900 for MARRIAGES of EDWIN STONEHOUSE, then click FIND

I tested this and he is there.

On the result page, click on the NUMBER next to his name.
This takes you to a view of the records on that marriage page.

There are normally 4 names per page.  In this case, there are only 3 - which means another name has not yet been transcribed into the index.  So ... Edwin MAY have been married to the woman who is ont he page, or to the one who isn't transcribed yet.

To get the certificate for Edwin's marriage you would need to use the GRO (Government Records Office) website.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

The cost for this is £7.  You need to quote the volume number, and the date (ie the Quarter of the particular year).

Information for Edwin is available in the 1891 census:

He is living with his widowed mother, Mary Ann Stonehouse, 49, Charwoman, born Yorkshire Row???mill (not very readable), his brother Albert, 9 and sister Mary Jane, 6, all born Kirby, Yorkshire.  Edwin is shown as age 13.

They are all living in Kirby.

best wishes

Paul

Hello Carol,

Getting Harry's birth cert could help in finding his mother, since Paul found Edwin in the 1901 census living with his sister in law who wasn't married, it is possible that Wilson could have been his late wife's maiden name I actually found a marriage of a Edwin Stonehouse and a Jane Wilson in the quarter ending September 1899 in Stokesley and a birth of a Harry Stonehouse in Stokesley in 1900..

the reference numbers are as follows if you want to get the cert.

the Marriage is... Volume number 9d  and Page number    1065

Harry's birth is Volume number 9d and page number 609

Paul is right about only 3 names being listed on the marriage entry but with the surname coincidence it could very likely be the right one.

The best of luck in your search

Sorry, meant to say that using the 1891 information for Mary and Edwin, you should be able to locate them in the free 1881 census available at www.familysearch.org
That should get you Edwin's father.  Let me know if you have any problems.

best wishes

Paul

thankyou, found he married Jane Wilson in Stokesley Sep 1899. obviously his sister was Sarah Wilson. Harry died 1903. Jane died 1901. But having trouble with 1881 census, have found a  Sarah  aged 5 and Jane aged 3 both born in Sunderld Durham England, Am I on the right track ?
Edwin's Father was Christopher I think born 1828.
