1841 Census Llaneli look-up please
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 15:01 BST (UK) »
Hello
I'm looking for information on Sarah Ridley and possibly her husband Henry. I know she lived at Water street in the 1851 census, but I believe she arrived in Llanelly sometime before 1841. She would have had 3 if not 4 children then. I'm not sure when or where her husband died but he was not on the 1851 census.
Any help would be really appreciated

Kind regards

Chris

Thank you so much Rosie

Yes that is my Sarah, and it fills another piece of the jig saw. Unfortunately no mention of her husband Henry although he must have been with her in at least 1845? because her last child was born in 1846. Bit of a stumbling block now.

Once again thanks very much for your amazingly quick help

Chris

Thank you very much Welsh Lady.

I had already come across that entry and have also found a burial in Llanelli Parish Church for a Anthony Ridley, also of Prospect place. He died on 28-3-1846 aged 3 weeks so he could easily be from my family. As I can't seem to find any information on Henry's death I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to take this now.

Kind Regards

Chris

Do you know Sarahs maiden name ?If not would be worth purchasing one of the younger childrens birth certs. And then finding Henry and Sarahs marriage .Also do you know where Henry was born?

Thanks again Welsh Lady

It's great to get conformation like this, as well as new information.

Sarah's maiden name was Dawson and she was born in Ovington, NBL in 1811. She married Henry on the 16th June 1832 in Ovingham, NBL. I believe Henry might have been born in Ovingham and christened on 9th December 1811, although this is a Little tenuous. I do know that they had 2 children who were christened in Hylton DUR - John Walter 27/07/1834 and Robert 26/02/1836. And as their daughter Sarah was born in Llanelli in 1838 they must have moved down between these years. I know that Sarah spent the rest of her life in Llanelli as did some of her children. But Henry remains a mystery.

Also you mention Margaret Howe Ridley (1865) - Mother Sarah Ann Ridley... this is interesting as Sarah Ann married either a James Howell or a Thomas Price in 1870 maybe there is a connection between the Howe part of her name and James Howell....Who Knows??

I really do appreciate this research your doing for me, it's extremely helpful and enlightening.

Kind regards

Chris

Hi Chris ,  are you still out there? My name is Donald Ridley and in researching my father I found that he lived at #5 Tytherton Rd Islington and coincidentally perhaps a John Henry Llewellin Ridley lived at #15. I thought perhaps they were related but never found a link. I found an item on Family Search which indicated John Henry was son of John Walton.
Finding your posting from way back indicated you were researching John Henry Llewellin from his father's,  John Walton ?side.
Can I ask I you have more history you could share
I still wonder if there is a link to my family.
Thanks in advance.
Don
