Missing grandfather
« on: Wednesday 12 August 09 19:57 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me trace my grandfather's records? William George Sydney Parsons was born in 1894 in Plymouth. He married his 2nd cousin, Amy Parsons, in Plymouth. On his marriage certificate he called himself George and lied about his age (Amy was 11 years older). He became sub-postmaster of a post office in Plymouth but was sent to Exeter prison in 1932 for embezzling PO funds. He was released on 17.6.1933 and disappeared - my father and grandmother never saw him again. I have his birth and marriage certificates and have studied his prison and post office records. I cannot find his death as I don't know a) where he was, b) what age was given at his death c) what name was given. He had a sister, Lilian, who married Henry Burrows, a dentist in Plymouth. My father received treatment from him as a boy. I have tried to trace the Burrows family in case their descendants might know something but I have been unsuccessful. He also had sisters Ethel and Alice and a brother Charles but I haven't managed to trace them either.

Thanks for that. I forgot to say that I have looked at all censuses so I have that information. It's how to proceed from 1933 (my last concrete fact) that I don't know.

Hi I do believe I have some information about Henry Burrows. He was a dentist in the Royal Navy before retiring, I knew him in passing when I was very young as he used to visit my grandmother in Hooe (Plymouth) on a regular basis. I have a photograph of him and more information about him and his family if you wish to contact me.

This is a very old thread. The people mentioned appear in family trees on Ancestry:
