« on: Wednesday 02 March 05 09:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,I am searching for a birth place and date for John Culverhouse.
John was commissioned into the Royal Navy 1/12/1787 and served with Nelson at the Battle of Cape St Vincent.
He was put aboard a captured Spanish ship with Lt Hardy(yes the Hardy) and 40 sailors and was in turn recaptured by the Spanish.Culverhouse,Hardy and crew were exchanged at Gibralter for a notable Spaniard.
He went on to serve at River Plate and was promoted to Captain in 1802.
In 1803 he was impress officer in Liverpool and a death in 1809 records him as drowned.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Regards,Pete 8)
Mainly researching the Lees from Herts but also compiling a one name study of Culverhouse
