147 Caversham Road
« on: Friday 14 August 09 13:00 BST (UK) »
My family lived at this address c 1890 for about 10 years. I should love to have a photo of the house if someone can take one or find one from about the time the Cox family lived in it. If not, a description would help. Thank you

Have you tried the Reading libraries website for an old photo? They have a big collection online of old photos of the Reading area.

I'll have a look for the house when I am round that way, and take a photo if possible. I don't know if the numbering will still be the same though.

This site has seven photographs of Caversham Road at various locations along its length, not sure whereabouts 147 would be though.

Thanks to Ann and Ivy.
I've looked at the site but they don't seem to include no 149 (I said 147, but I was 1 out). If Ann is kind enough to take a photo next time she's there, maybe one showing it with the neighbouring houses would give a better idea. They look as if they are likely to be terraces. Thank you both.

Hello Jacqueline

I think the numbers on the photos are just that - photo numbers. Number 149 is in the far distance on the righthand side of the road on the second photo on the Little Heath site. Most of the photos show the slightly superior houses with dormer windows and the fancy Reading brickwork. Your house is on the other side of the road, a bit smaller and plainer.

I'm afraid your bit of Caversham road has come down in the world! I photographed 147 of course, but you can see part of 149 to the right of it, and the other photo shows the houses in the next block along which I think would be the same as yours.
