Richard,

I think that I have found a marriage for Rowland.

Name                                    Rowland Walker Greenwood
Year of Registration                1896
Quarter of Registration            Jan-Feb-mar
District of Registration             Sheffield
Volume Number                      9c
Page Number                          610

Also on same page  Mary Jane Watson

1901 census

22 Bridgefield Road, Ecclesall Bierlow

Rowland W Greenwood  Hd   Mar   28   Stone Mason
Mary J Greenwood        Wife         27   Dress Maker
Clarrie Greenwood        Dau          3
William E Greenwood    Son          11 Months

All born Sheffield, with the exception of Mary who was born Worsop, Notts (could this be Worksop.)

Will see if I can find any possible marriages for the other siblings.

Best Wishes

I've always thought it was Walter. I have a copy of my Great Grandparent's marriage certificate & I thought it said Walter, but you're right it could equally be Walker.

A snippet I've just gleaned from the same certificate that I never noticed before. They were married in 1913 & Walter/Walker is shown as Deceased.

I really don't know where to go from here, so anything you care to look at would be helpful.

Richard,

Is your intention still to try to go forwards?

My only thought on this is to look for the siblings in 1911 which is the most recent census available, making a note of their childrens names and years of birth and then we could possibly look for marriages for the children (after 1915 ish you can search for children using both their surname and their mothers maiden name)

I know this is a long shot, but I cannot readily think of another way to move forward, maybe someone else will come up with an easier solution.

I am happy to continue to try and find marriages for the siblings, but I think the 1911 census will be useful as well.

There is a Walker Greenwood listed on the 1911 census, year of birth 1845 listed as living in Sheffield and there would appear to be a Thomas Greenwood living in the same household.  It might be worth taking a look at that.

I am more than happy to do anything I can to help.

Best Wishes

Hi
Just to remind you that if you get to births around 1920 on then these people may still be living and we do not post any details of living people on rootschat.

Andrea,

I am aware of this thank you. I would send  any information which I found where there was the potential for the person still to be alive to Richard by personal message.

I wasn't sure if Richard would know as he is new.  He has enough posts now for you to use the pm system.

Andrea,

Thanks for the pointer. I participate in a number of forums to be aware of rules applicable to postings. I'm sure CJL & I will move to PM'ing fairly soon.

Hi CJL,

Thanks for the offer, that would be brilliant.

I did a bit of searching on the FreeBMD website yesterday, and I think I've now traced Rowland's death (1926) & Percy Greenwood's marriage (1898).

This is becoming fascinating again. Would be interested in moving forwards, but now I think I'd also like to see how far back I can go as well. Have got so far on this, but reached a point where I got stuck.

Regards,

Richard

Hi Richard,

Is this the marriage which you found for Percy?

1898    Jul-Aug-Sept      Sheffield  9c     p865

On the same page Florence Sellers

1901 Census
18 Tanfield Road, Sheffield

Percy Greenwood        Hd      25    Tram? Conductor
Florence Greenwood    Wife   24
Edgar Greenwood        Son     2
Elsie Greenwood          Dau    4 months

All born Sheffield.

Possible marriage for Ada Greenwood.

1905    Apr-May-Jun     Sheffield     9c   P1093

On the same page Joseph Cobbett

On the 1911 census index there is an Ada Cobbett born 1885 living in Ecclesall Bierlow.

I haven't been able to find any trace of Jessie.

I will take a look for the other siblings but obviously without purchasing copies of the marriage certicates you cannot be 100% certain that these are correct for your family members.

You mentioned taking your family tree further back.  If you want to give me some names and dates, I would be more than happy to take a look and see what I can find for you.

Best Wishes
