RAF Andover - Battle of Britain Heroine
« on: Monday 17 August 09 00:06 BST (UK) »
The Royal Air Force contingent at Andover marks a farewell to the Town making way for Headquarters Land Forces.

On 15 September 2009, Battle of Britain Day, in Andover High Street between 10.00 am and 4.30 pm the local airmen and airwomen will engage with the citizens of the Town in an event that involves past, present and future Royal Air Force.

We are urgently trying to find a photograph, information and relatives of Corporal Josephine Robins, one of only six members of the WAAF to win the Military Medal during the Second World War. She won her award for courage rescuing people during an air-raid on the RAF Andover airfield in the Battle of Britain.

Scrimnet thought you may be able to help!

Hello Catapult, and welcome to Rootschat.
You can find a painting of Corporal Robins, by Dame Laura Knight, in the Imperial War Museum art collection.
The URL is rather long to put into this post, so just go to www.iwmcollections.org.uk and search on her name.

I spoke to IWM and we now have image to use.

I am still trying to find out if Josephine Maude Gwynne Robins is still alive  (90+?) or has any relatives that may be interested in our event.

Never done anything like this before so I don't know where to start!
Would really appreciate any help!

Thanks in advance.
