Now to look at threst of the jigsaw!

There are indices and quarters given on the page so the certificate can be sent for in the usual way.  Please check details though.  I just put these up so we'd have all the info together.

I don't know if you can cross reference marriages as in England.  I'll try!

Best wishes

Annie,

i havent read the other threads

does the St Margarets mariage yield any clues, if Elizabeth was OTP or of Enderby what does it say for Joseph?

did you say they were married at St Maragrets?

how about leicestershireroots. (google it) ? does this help?

Snippet from the history of Enderby.

Enderby was already beginning to assume the characteristics of an industrial village, an 'open parish' system where the Lord of the Manor and MP for the Borough of Leicester, Charles Lorrraine Smith of fox hunting fame had diminishing influence over ordinary people.

During the 19th century framework knitting began to dominate industry in Enderby and, indeed, people from Enderby were called upon to give evidence to the Royal Commission of 1844 who were investigating the plight of framework knitters.

At this time there were 350 frames recorded in the village. Traditionally whole families would be employed in the knitting industry, working from their own homes, which were often adapted by the insertion of long windows to allow for maximum daylight.

Oh my goodness -- I have just come in to find all this so far! Thankyou all so much! I shall have to reread it and digest it so far --

two points jump out though

firstly, No, I had no idea that Thomas Kilner and Eveline divorced though it sounds almost certain to be them. By 1914, Eveline was living with someone else. But in 1915, when Thomas joined the army, his status was given as married  ???

Secondly, I am definitely not after any link with Jeremy Clarkson!  :o :o  ;D

will come back to the thread soon when I've had time to read porperly what people have found so far  :D

re Elizabeth Hill/Kilner's family names, I don't think there is any clue there.

As far as I can work out, her parents were John Hill and Ann Fellows (the witness Reuben at her wedding was, I believe, either an uncle or cousin on her maternal side). Her siblings I believe to have been William, Robert, Sarah, Mary, Ann, another William, John, Sylvester, Maria.

I've ordered the divorce certification and am on tenterhooks waiting for it now!

OK, I've read through all the posts a bit more carefully now and once again I have to thank all those who've made suggestions so far. Please keep them coming!

IF Joseph was from Ireland, was there any record kept of immigration from Ireland in those days?

What about any censuses for Ireland in the mid 1800s? Or marraiges or death records? I have no knowledge of any Irish family history stuff at all I'm afraid!

Looking at the scan for the Kilner/Ratcliffe marraige in 1934, I think the original actually says Thomas D but I can't find any Thomas D Kilners on BMD who were born in an appropriate timescale to match with this marraige. I wonder if it's worth getting the certificate? There was a Thomas L born in Ecclesall Bierlow in 1911. But then again, my Thomas wasn't living with a wife when he died in 1947 -- hmm -- (thinking aloud)

Re Florence Kilner (Thomas's younger sister) I agree that she married Alfred Franklin in Leic in 1912. But another puzzle opens up here - there are 3 FranklinG children born to a Frankling/Kilner match in Leicester between 1913 - 1920. However, there are also 2 Franklin children born ALLEGEDLY to a Franklin/Kilner match in Hunslet, and their DOB don't allow for all 5 of these children to be siblings. Moreover, "my" Florence married Alfred Franklin, but in Hunslet, Albert E Franklin married Florence Oates in 1910. Why the Hunslet children have their mother's maiden name given as Kilner is another pzzle that has foxed me up to now but maybe that's for a different thread!

Hi I bet you're gaga if you've just read that lot!

One thing, there aren't any earlier censuses except 1901 as they were all destroyed for Ireland - apart that is, for a small part of 1851, which was already insexed - but only the index survives and I think only Dublin.  You never know though.

1901 isn't on this NA site yet, but there are quite a lot of smaller projects.

There are some trade Directories online though, and what trhey call Replacement Census =- ie various data bases people have transcribed, which give names and places.

There are some Dublin churches too, with some records online.

I got gaga with it all trying to find my lot, but I'll have a look.

The Dublin board is great though. and loads of resources.

By the way, when I started on this I saw a Sylvester somewhere and discarded him!

Sorry!

Good searching!

Annie  Ireland was part of the UK back then so no immigration records, it was just like someone catching the Isle of Wight ferry, no need for any records.
