John KNIGHT: Born Honiton C1808
« on: Friday 21 August 09 22:38 BST (UK) »
Hi

I got interested in this family through Gerald Featherstone Knight who won the MC in the Great War and also made a successful escape from a POW camp in Germany, John was Geralds Gt. G'Father.

Can anyone give me any info on John, I have the census details but am looking for his parents, his date of birth & death, his wifes maiden name, when and where they married etc. John was an Alderman in Honiton in the 1860/70's.

Going back to Gerald, he died in October 1919, but I have been unable to find where he is buried, he had an aunt living in Torquay, is there an area of the town called Stanmore?

Regards

IanC

Try contacting the OPC for Honiton. Go to http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Honiton/index.html and scroll down to genealogy.

Hello Linda.
IanC hasnt been on Rootschat since 2010 and it is possible you may not get a reply.

Hopefully he is still around and has the same email address to be informed of your reply.

Is there is anything we can help you with?

You probably have this.

Hello Linda,
Do you have the details of John's siblings?
I have information on two of them.
Jane Knight married William Treves of Dorchester,  and was the mother of Frederick Treves, he of the Elephant Man fame, and also the surgeon who took out Edward VII's appendix.
Mary Knight married my ancestor Jonathan Dowdeswell of Beaminster.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.
